scanmaster 3 questions

So my next thing i want to get is the scanmaster 3.. it looks like it is the best out there for us first gen cars. being that it is in real time. now the problem that i am running into is that it plugs into the obd1 port and i used the jdm wirharness and it does not have any obd1 port or any diognostic port that i am aware of.. is there any way to bypass all of the signals?? make my own port of some sort? or any big problems you can think of?

Re: scanmaster 3 questions

I'm not familiar with the scanmaster 3, is it for data loging? There is some "free" software out there for the first gen, I might have it somwhere but I doubt it as I changed computers recently. I use a palm and plug into the OBD2 via my shiver cable (made and distributed by a guy on 3si called shiver).

Yeah it is for data loging.. the price is not a big deal.. It is just that i do not have any kind of OBD port.. my harness is from japan.. so my questions is more wondering can you bypass or splice in wirers that get the signals from all the differant sensors? (speed sensor, knock,O2 ext)... is the OBD1 port pre ecu or after the ecu? does the Ecu change the signal if the port is after the ecu.. that is what i need to know

Re: scanmaster 3 questions

Amazes me there isn't a diagnostics port...but I've never screwed with a JDM harness. Do you have a fuse box under the dash? It should be right there practically connected to it.

If not, if I understand you correctly, you still have the original 92 ECU (or at least some OBDI ecu, but the JDM harness) If you have the obd1 ecu in there, you are just going to have to splice a port in there somewhere.

Reference for pins on port

ECU pin diagrams

Judging by that, it says pins 112 and 113 go from the ECU to the diagnostic port. 112 being MPI functions from ECU, which is pin 1 on the diagnostic port. 113 being the Query wire from ECU, which is pin 10 on the diagnostic port. So apparently those 2 come directly from the ECU. The rest will have to be spliced and I don't think the ECU changes the signal, so they should be able to be spliced in basically anywhere in between ECU and original sensor/unit.

Now I say all that just by looking at the pin readouts. I havn't looked under my dash at it. Plus, how many of htem do you even need? For datalogging the engine, I would htink only the two above mentioned pins and a ground pin would be necessary. The other pins are for other systems like ABS, ECS, etc. So even if you never connected anything other than those two pins and the ground, you may still be able to datalog.

Give it a shot...good luck.

Re: scanmaster 3 questions

Dude igo... you are freaking amazing! you have answers to everything.. so yeah there is a fuse box that is set up the exact way the usdm one is however it does not have the port.. and i am running on the jdm Ecu I have a hard time thinking that they are going to be much differant.. however my speed sensor would be in KMPH and i dont have 3 o2 sensors.. only 1... so yeah i guess there are some changes.. I think i am going to try running the car with the stock computer from the usa and see if it runs still.. if it does that would mean that all wires should be the same??

I reread what i said and it sounded like i was being an ass.. i didn't mean it that way.. I ment you really have answers for every thing!!

Re: scanmaster 3 questions

Ok so i conected the jdm wire harness to the usdm computer and it started right up.. in fact it took off one of the lights on my dash? i dont even know what the light that was on was.. i will have to post a picture.. anyways so the jdm and usdm computers have to be almost the same...

Re: scanmaster 3 questions

Never thought you were answered like an ass. haha.

I don't think the wiring harness would matter at all. I mean it's only wires, no actual devices or sensors. So as long as everything is connected somehow you are good. If you have all the devices on one end connected, adn the ecu and whatever else on the other end connected...you are golden.
