97 Chevy K1500

I have recently installed 2 new pioneer 4x6" speakers wich are mounted onmy B-Pillar, unortunatly, they sound exactly like my old factory speakers (seems like only low tones come through and lacks any resemblence to a complete well rounded sound) also, theres a very audible pinging/banging noise when my speakers hit certain points. I also have a pioneer head unit and 2 6" Rockford Fosgate speakers on the doors, all installed professionally. So my question would be, whats causing the speakers to not work properly? Wireing? And whats causing the pinging sound, my guess is the magnet.

Also, I have the IPod adapter for my pioneer head unit, and it all of a sudden stopped working, or would work sporadically. Stil lcharges, jsut doesnt play. Connections are all good and secure too. Could it be new ipod software that isnt supported by the adapter?

and last and a little off topic, if I hooked a PS2 up in my truck, how would I run the sound through the speakers?

is the pinging noise from the speakers when they play a loud low note? if it is i bet they are either hitting the speaker wire behind them or they are bottoming out.

Like said above that would be your main culprit for that sound, as for the i-pod, there shoudlnt be any problems with an adapter working due to software especially if it isnt allways doing it. As for the ps2 you need a headunit with aux inputs.

4X6 in the b-pillar ? They probably sound the same because of the poor location.

As for the PS2 Q, I saw I have the auxilary input right after I posted that, ut thanks. And the speakers are just mounted in the factory location, and they were listed as 1 of 2 speakers that would fit that location, the others being extremely cheap replacements. So how would I fix this problem? I did instll them myself trying to save the money. Thanks again for your help.

Thats where I have 6.5" Rockfords. Theres gotta be some way of fixing this situation. My only goal was to have a solid sounding system in my truck by upgrading the factory speakers and maybe adding an amp and sub behind/under the seat.

I thought of this after my last post ..... the pingong sound is because they are being sent a fair amount of bass. Try putting some bass blockers on the 4X6's

I see several different "sizes" for bass blockers on crutchfield and also, what about the fact that it seems that ONLY low end sound is coming out of the speaker, would the be a wiring problem? I dont know if it was like that before I had my head unit installed, but i know the factory speaker was like that. What wires might i check on the headunit to see if theyre properly connected?

if they are only getting lower end then it is possable that the installer hooked them up to the rear speaker source

Check your headunit settings, make sure your not fading the speakers to the rear, turn down your bass...if you're installing a sub, most subs come with a bass control knob that you can control the amount of bass via the amp instead of the headunit. Bass blockers are a good option for the speakers just make sure you get the right ones, lowpass filters out the high frequencies, and highpass filters out the low frequencies...installing the speakers isn't real hard, you just have to make sure that the positive wire goes to the positive coil, and the negative to a negative coil...as for the 'ping' sound you hear, I'm guessing it could be the wiring, I would replace the speaker wire with a bigger gauge, probably a pain in the rear to run all new wire, but well worth it. I have 4 6x5s, and 2 Kicker CVRs with a ZX550.2 amp

Bass only comes out in low frequency, anything that blocks from 300hz and up would be fine.

You guys think it would be worthwhile jsut to take my truck to best buy and have them install the filters and re-wire it (and dynamat while im at it) and save myself the frusration?

If your not comfortable doing it then yeah other wise its like a 30 min job max.

I don't know how it's connected or what all you have ... but if you're speakers are connected to an outboard amp make sure the rear speakers' amp is not connected to the sub output on the headunit. Also you might look and see if you have a crossover on the headunit that could be misadjusted.
