someone w/ knowledge i have a question..

ok i got my b-20 in a 91 civic i was racing a prelude yesterday on the freeway we were going about 70 miles an hour when we both punched it i launched in fron of him as was up by about half a car length i started to pull away i was at about 110 mph i can feel the tourque and i feel like i can hit 125 or so. right when i think that my autogage rpm tach hits my redline and the light comes on telling me to shift, only prob. is im already in 5th gear. i ignore it for half a sec. and the engine starts to cut off and wont let me pass 110. what i was wondering is if that is the top speed??(i highly doubt it cause i could still feel torque kicking in and my pulling away) another reason is my stock 1.5 dx almost hit 115mph so i now b-20 can do it. does it have to do with the wiring or my rpm tach. i want to fix this asap. help is appreciated. thanx.

It sounds like the way your tranny is geared that your engine is running pretty fast. The cut-off is in the ECU so you don't blow up your motor.

I think B-series trannies are geared for acceleration, not top-speed driving. You would need different gearing if you want to go faster. Who needs to go faster than 110 mph unless you are on a track?

its true that you dont really need to go faster than 110 but highway racing is pretty fun somtimes, i can hit 110 in 4th not even at redline, i did this while racing a bike *i dont know what kind* but then i seen a cop and had to slow down.......he still got my ass

I have a Y1 tranny on my B18b and stock PR4 ECU...My speedo is pegged on the 125 mph mark when I hit redline at 6800rpm on 5th gear. Cruising is bad though at 4500rpm @ 85mph. Just get a chipped ECU to eliminate rev and speed limiter...:flash:

The real question we need to ask is what rpm are you at in 5th gear at 110? Cause if I remember correctly I am at 5k on mine.

first of all highway racing is really dangerous. there was this one guy who was highway racing and he crashed and killed a woman. another guy was highway racing and crashed and his integra ripped in half. well because of these highway racers, racing is now virtually nonexistent. cops are cracking down on street racing beause of these 2 highway racers. highway racers give us drag racers a bad name. 2 people ruined it for everyone. at our race spot, when i was a junior in high school i used to go and usually there would be like 80 cars there, but now when i just went racing this past week end, there was only 8 cars there.

anyways i say just get a ls tranny cause switching gears is hard. it would just be easier to swap the tranny.

By the way...110 mph at 6000 rpm...I did it on my way home on 580 freeway, no other cars except a couple of em behind me. I was cruising at 70mph then accelarated on 5th gear til I hit 110mph. I was on that speed for no more than 3 seconds and proceeded to slow down to legal speed limit.
Highway racing is not at all being condoned by this board or any other board to say the least...But sometimes when put in a spot and provoked, you have to hold your own. If you have to race someone on public streets or highway, please do so when you know that no other cars or people can be endangered. You know you and the other vehicle you're racing are put at risk, so thats the choice you have to make.
Racing is for the track!

I know my stock DX cruised at 90 @ 4000 rpm. I agree with EF_LSVtec about the racing. The only time I get on it is when I know there is no one else in danger, even then I keep my eyes open for anything unexpected. Also you must know your own capabilities and know how fast you are able to handle and don't go any past that. Either way, racing is still for the track.

thanks H4bangin...I don't usually speed anyway...Yeah right Good to know, especially that stretch of the freeway is my route to my son's school. I've been very fortunate, knock on wood, I just received my new drivers license renewed through the mail because I have no prior record.

dude my rpm's are high at 110 i was just a little over 7 thats my redline and thats when it cut off. at 60mph im right around 4000 rpms!!! that really seems high to me. i dont know if thats the way the motor is cause i know its not a high reving one. but 60mph @4000 seems a little high for me but i might be wrong. heres the way its set up.

b-20b w/ b-16 distributer, b-16 comp. b-16 wiring, w/ b-16 tranny.

every thing is in place for crvtec, which will happen in a few months.

but does my rpms seem right
