91 T-bird Odometer problem

I have a 1991 T-Bird that the speedometer works fine but the odometer doesn't. I've called the Ford dealer and they say that the odometer is out of production and cannot get one. A local repair shop said that they can repair it or me but it will be $170.00 "ouch." Is there another year odometer that will fit this vehicle? I've already been to a salvage yard and the one I got did not work either. I'm frustrated Any help?

Does the tripometer work? If so then is there any particular reason you need a functioning odometer? I may be wrong but any 89-93ish odometer should work.

Re: 91 T-bird Odometer problem

Thanks for your reply. No the trip meter doesn't work. I contacted the Ford dealer and the Odometer/Speedometer is the same from 89-93 but it is out of production. I check about 50 on line shops and it cannot be found. The salvage yards that I was able to retrieve 2 from was a waist of time and money, neither one of those worked either. I've got a 20 tooth gear coming in the mail, so I'll try to repair it myself. Everyone I've found both locally and nationally wanted between $130 to $200 to repair. I found that the 20 tooth gear was the only gear to be missing teeth. Wish me luck.

Thumbs up Re: 91 T-bird Odometer problem

Okay i am back again all. but this problem u are having could possibly be your speed sensor for one. it plugs into the right side of your transmission. if u can't get it fixed try to pick up one of these at autozone not exspensive. if that doesn't work there are also a couple more possibilities. there is a double gear in your odometer that melts quite easily check that out or it could be a wire shorted out. i have the same problem with my 95 but i haven't gotten it fixed yet best of luck.
