02 GP GT Security ?

Helllo all,
I have a 02 GP GT, and it seems to have a problem with the factory security system. The reason is , that when approaching the car I see that the led on the dash blinks very fast, the key fob doesn't work at times, and when I put the key in everything is dead. But, if I turn the key a few times it seems to come alive, as if there was no problem. The next day the same problem. I think I read here or a link here (which I seem to be unable to find now) stated that some of the GP had this problem. Has any of you GP owners ran into this problem, if so what was the fix, and is it something I could fix or take it back to the dealer for a fix. Any help is welcomed. Thanks alot

Re: 02 GP GT Security ?

Due to the complexity and difficulty in troubleshooting GPs with Passkey III and/or the Content Alarm Security system you may have to take it to a dealer anyways to get it scanned. Hopefully, some body (BCM) DTC codes will show up. A common problem on 2000 and GPs is a bad ignition key/tumbler cylinder or a BCM module. These type problems can be troubleshot or repaired DIY but it is hit and miss without proper diagnostics equipment like a Tech II scanner the GM dealers have.

Re: 02 GP GT Security ?

To add to bnaylor's suggestion, if the BCM is found to be at fault, they have to be programmed at the dealer to your VIN# before installation anyway (they are not plug and play), so it may be best to take it there for diagnosis.
