!995 Stratus - Rear window defrost switch / relay

I have a 1995 Stratusd (220K)
Last spring the rear defrost started turning itself on, then it started tutning itself on and off rapidly. I pulled the relay to get rid of the annoyance. Now I could use some defrost in the mornings.
Any Ideas on whether I can safely by-pass the relay with a toggle switch?
I don't really want to invest in new heater / AC control panel, not a hard job just more $ than I want to put in this car.

Thanks!

Either a faulty relay or a problem with the wirng that triggers the relay.

Hi

Haven't done any more diagnostics or repairs. Freezing drizzle this morning so I plugged the relay back in - worked fine so far.
