Electronic Ingnition
I own 2, 2003 Grand Am's both with 3400's and I also own a 2005 Aztec also with a 3400 and on any given vehicle at any given time when starting them sometimes they'll crank and crank and crank before starting, other times they'll crank once, start and sputter out and then other times they'll start with one turn of the key. What is problem behind this? I've seen other GM vehicles do it that have electronic ignitions and it annoy's me on my vehicles.

Re: Electronic Ingnition
I would think it to be a fuel pressure issue.
Rent or buy a fuel pressure gauge and test them. The shradder vavle is on the pass side back fuel rail. Shoule be caped(looks like an air stem vavle). Has the fuel filters been changed? They should about every 30-40k miles. Both my GA's w/3.4 does this pereodicly, sometimes it even backfires through the air intake.

Re: Electronic Ingnition
The GA SE1 has 135k miles and maintainace has been followed according to the owners manual as the Aztec and the SC/T GA have also. The the SC/T and Aztec both have under 30K miles. A friend of mine has a base model Impala with the 3400 and it does this too. It's a very annoying problem since all three of my vehicles have remote starts.

Re: Electronic Ingnition
I guess it could also be the IAC causing this.
Its on the top side of the TB(4wire plug). You can remove it with a torx bit and clean the carbon off, just dont push or turn the cone tip(pintle). Also clean to port it goes into and down in the intake area. That should help with starting Here is a pic of that IAC location, the yello arrow. If you need a testing procedure I can post that.
