Smile 2000 Front end shimmy???

Hello All hoping someone can shed some light on my problem.

I am having a slight front end shimmy/steering wheel shake at speeds between 55-80, comes and goes but is present most of the time. I have replaced brake pads and put new rotors on. I also replaced the struts. I have yet to get it aligned but it drives straight as an arrow at the moment. The sound I am getting is kinda like a tire problem...the noise goes with the rotation of the tires. Had the tires balanced and rotated and is still there???? Any ideas on what else it could be would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Brehmster

Re: 2000 Front end shimmy???

brehmster,
have you had any luck finding the cause of this "shimmy"?
I'm having exactly the same isues with our 2002 odyssey. it tracks straight down the road, but at speeds above 55-60MPH, the steering wheel will shimmy, and as you mentioned, it seems to come and go.

things I've checked so far are, ball joints, steering linkage, A-arm joints, and just for the heck of it, I also checked all the suspension joints on the rear of the van also.
this weekend, I'm taking it to have the tire ballance, and alignment checked, although, I suspect they are both fine.

Thumbs up Re: 2000 Front end shimmy???

Hey guys,

Well I took the van in today and had a 4 wheel alignment done and the problem went away. Go Figure??? It drove and tracked straight down the road before the alignment so I thought the alignment was fine. I did not get exact numbers on how far it was out but the guy who did it said it was for sure way out in the front. Anyway I guess never under estimate the importance of a good alignment and a professional mechanic.

thanks for the info, guess I'll be taking it in for an alignment, brobably go ahead and have the ballance checked as well just to make sure.

thanks again,
