Changing Caprice Wiper Arm
Hey guys,
I need to remove the left wiper arm from an '87 Caprice wagon. I can't figure out how to get it off, any ideas? Thanks, Alex T |

OK, so on one of the arms (looking out the windshield, the right arm) I definitely see a clip, but on the one thats broken, I see no such clip, could they be of different designs? Thanks, alex T |

Re: Changing Caprice Wiper Arm
You might have to "park" the wiper in another position to get good access to the clip, do open the hood, it will give you more room to play. Grab the clip with a pair of pliers and pull it back, which is probably all of 3/16". From there it pulls straight up, which might be a struggle for a few seconds.

Re: Changing Caprice Wiper Arm
I think what happened is that the clip must have broken off of the arm in question. I can clearly see the clip on the good arm, but on the broken one, the clip is unfortunately absent, only the "pegs" where it should be attached remain. Is there any way of removing this arm then?
Thanks, Alex T |

Re: Changing Caprice Wiper Arm
If you have the new arm already, compare it and try to identify the little ears that need to be pulled back on the old one. Open the hood to give yourself more room. Needle nosed pliers should be ok.
You still might have to fight to get it off, unclip the tension spring on the underside of the arm. From there it might need a little coaxing with a big screwdriver. Place a block of wood on the cowl and pry against that. I had one extremely stubborn one once, wound up cutting most of it off with an abrasive wheel. Bob |

Re: Changing Caprice Wiper Arm
BTW, before you pull the clip, lift up the arm, then pull the clip out, then release the arm to hold the clip out while you try to fiddle the arm off the post.
