88 Cherokee will not stay started

Ok guys, I feeling pretty stupid here. But here it goes.

I have a 1988 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L Has intermittent starting trouble. when cranking, it will start then die. I have connected a wire from the battery that goes to the starter Relay/Solonoid that is located on the fender well behind the battery on position "F". This keeps the Jeep running. The fuel pump then runs constantly but the Jeep does not die on me. I have to keep the wire on the Relay/Solonoid. What could this be? Please help

Re: 88 Cherokee will not stay started

that sounds like the B+ latch relay under the hood, also know on later models as the auto shut down relay, if you keep the key in the start posistion,, will it keep running?

Yes it does. Thanks, I have changed out the relay. Maybe a bad wire to the relay?
