2002 tahoe dash lights

This may be an easy question for someone to answer, I hope so anyway it might save me a trip to the dealer. My problem is that the instrumentation lights will not light up...unless the wheel by light switch is turned all the way up resulting in all of the inside lights coming on. If headlamps are turned on manually with switch or automatic lighting system is activated and lamps are on, there is no instrument lights. But yet they will work when the wheel is turned all the way up. Thought maybe it was a fuse but am I correct in assuming that they would then not work by using the wheel either? Or does it sound like possible light switch malfunction or???????? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Regards , TC

Re: 2002 tahoe dash lights

I know this was some time ago but I have a 2001 Tahoe and I'm having the exact same problem. Do mind sharing how you fixed it? I'm thinking the dimmer switch is bad.

Thanks Jim

I take it you ended up bringing it to a dealer? What did they end up charging you to repair it? I was hoping it was just the dimmer switch but it doesn't sound like that was the case.

Re: 2002 tahoe dash lights

Now that I think about it I bet it has something to do with the daylight sensor. When you wheel the dimmer switch up all the way it over rides the dash lights being shut off by the sensor. I didn't pay much attention to this but I think the dash lights are off during the day, my head lights still automatically come on so does anyone know if the dash lights has its own sensor?

Thanks Jim
