2004 XE 2.4L / Any advice before I buy?

I am looking to buy a 2004 XE 2.4L Xterra with 57,000 miles for $10,000.It also carries a 100,000 ext warranty.I can't spend alot.
I'm just a Mom looking for a reliable and safe vehicle but with a little personality, too.I am tired of buicks. They are reliable but boring.
It's a 2wd and a 4 cyl,but I wont be going off road too much unless you count the fact that I live in rural Mississippi. It's pretty much dirt roads, bumps, mud and pot holes.I love trucks.
I have visited some sites for reveiws and ratings, etc, but I wanted to touch base with some real people, too.

I have a few questions for you Xterra experts:

Re:2004 XE 2.4L Xterra with 57,000 miles for $10,000
  • Although this is a lower end Xterra, would you recommend it?
  • Are the Xterras generally reliable?
  • Does the 4cyl hold up as well as the 6 cyl?
  • Does this model have power windows/locks?
  • Is it safe?
  • Gas milage in the 4 cyl? Is it really 25mpg?
Thanks! I will look forward to hearing from you.

Vic

I wouldn't recommend any 2wd 4cyl personally. You get a topheavy, underpowered truck. Unless you're just going to get grocery's or haul dogs.

Yes, I feel the Xterra has an above average reliability. It's a proven platform.

The 4cyl is very underpowered.

XE's have power locks if the previous owner bought the power package. Should be easy to tell when you test drive it.

Yes, it's safe. You're higher than most vehicle bumpers, rollover photos show that the cab is very stout. Just have to be careful about oversteering in emergency situations like all SUV's.

I doubt any posted gas mileage ratings for the Xterra. Usually 3-5mpg lower with actual driving.

The 100k warranty is a nice deal though. But I would really look for a 4x4 Xterra. That's what an SUV is about IMO.

Thanks for the info.Yes,I may continue to look and check out the 4x4/6 cyl.BTW,I looked at the 2006 Xterra and they just aren't cute to me.I can see what some people on here were talking about now.
Thanks again.
