Re: need more Hp

boost it.....get an adapter plate for the HF manifold that he has, pick up a 14b from an eclipse, run the sidemount (or FMIC if he so desires), find the rest of the parts he needs and tune on an AFC....that would yield another 50-150hp depending on the exact setup.

Also to the Ford Mustang comment, if he had enough money to but the Stang, he could have his EF running 10s. Shit, i have only about $15k into my car and i can walk stock Cobras.....

Re: need more Hp

ok fine, the mustang comment was a little tongue in cheek. my point is, civic, mustang, ford, honda, chevy, dodge, toyota, nissan, whatever; doesn't matter what it is, you do all the same things to make more power. better flow, more air, more fuel, more compression, more efficiency. to make more power with an 87 crx just do the same thing you would do with any other OHV gasoline powered piston engine.

this is all a little long winded and a little rude but you are not unfamiliar with af.com. if you back log your posts you may discover that you got the best replies when you asked more specific questions (go ahead, look. i did). there are a vast number of things he can do to make more power including motor saps, turbocharging and even a few aftermarket bolt on parts still hanging around. all this information is available in some form or another, at the very least you may find some direction as to where you should look for it. i know these things because in many cases i have had the benefit of reading about it as it was posted, in other cases i used the SEARCH function to find anything i was unsure of.

i don't get it, my reply provided a sufficient answer to this question. if your friend a want's more hp and he haves an 87 crx so he should buy a mustang. it will have more hp. :P

Re: need more Hp

As it is a legitimate answer, i dont believe that is what was desired. You do bring up a good point, he was vague in the description of how to attain the extra power. There are many options available for your friend. He could swap in a new engine. Anything from a better D series to a B, H, F, J, or K series. With any of those new engines is another full range of possibility. Think of a Honda much like Legos....you can pretty much snap any two parts together and make them work with a little effort.

Re: need more Hp

LOL...
Handyandy: does not play well with others.

91hondaHB, boosting a 20 year old motor is the dumest advise your friend could take. If you boost an old motor, you will blow it up. Instead, rebuild the motor and it will seem like a totally new car!

Right now his poor D15A3 is probably only pumping out about 70HP, you can add about 25 HP just by rebuilding it. You can add alot more HP with some port work in the cylinder head, header, exhaust and CAI. The D15A3 has been known to produce 150HP (N/A) if built properly.

The free/cheap things he can do to produce a little more power right now will be to give it a tune up, advance the timing a little, remove the resonator ducting leading up to the air filter box from under the car, and remove the baffle in the bottom of the air filter box under the air filter.

I'd also suggesting searching a little harder for your answers, this has been covered again and again and again...

and again, and again...

and again, and most people are tired of answering this question again and again and again.

Just to reiterate, this topic has been discussed many times and there is a ton of info to be found because people have been modifying these cars for the past 20 years. A good place to start searching would be in the link highlighted in red in cvcc_wagon's sig.

Good luck!
