2001 v6 surging, stalling, and tach issues

While driving sometimes the car will act as if it is going to die then surge. This always coincides with the tach jumping up to 4,000 rpms and then jumping to 8,000 rpms when you give it throttle.

Twice it has died while sitting at a stoplight. No sputtering, just dies. Once it started right away, once it took 30 seconds.

Once the engine light came on.

This problem just developed in the last two weeks and I would like to get it taken care of ASAP.

After searching other threads I think the problem is with either the EGR valve, crankshaft sensor, or fuel pump pressure regulator.

Just wondering if anymore more knowledgeable can offer a suggestion before I attempt to change all three.

Thanks for your help,
Bryan

I forgot to mention the car has 60,000 miles and I just recently chance the PCV valve and plugs.

Re: 2001 v6 surging, stalling, and tach issues

Just went to start the car after it 1) stalled on me and 2) after I got it started surged 30 seconds later.

It took 30 seconds to get it started and the engine light is on.

I just cleaned the EGR valve and the engine light shut off.

Well that didn't work. Stalled again. The engine light did not come on this time however.

It was the crankshaft position sensor.
