can't get out of 4wd lo

i recently bought a 01 tahoe this is my first winter with a four wheel drive. i went off the road with and had to use the 4wd and now it wont come out. i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what could be done. i was also wondering if there was a way to temporaraly disengaging the 4wd so i can get to work.
