Question Why check axle fluid every 7500 miles?

The owners manual of my 2WD 03 Yukon has checking the axle fluid every 7500 miles. (Axle fluid and rotate tires every 7.5K mi, air and fuel filter every 30K). Checking axle fluid seems a bit silly and unnecessary but usually the maintenance schedules have a reason for listing such things. Anyone have any knowledge as to why checking the axle fluid would be so important to list it?

Checking axle fluid should be included or part of the regular oil change service. Along with checking all of the other fluid levels.
It is just good preventive maintenance and will usually catch a problem before something gets burned up if it has a leak someplace.
And may be required for the factory warranty to be good.

If you use a quickie lube service keep a eye on them and make sure they do there job of checking it. They tend to over look things like that.
And some are even fail to get the oil drain plug back in right.
Good Luck

If I see a spot on the garage floor, I'll check it, otherwise , it isn't worth the effort.

Re: Why check axle fluid every 7500 miles?

I replaced my rear gear oil on my 03 Yukon this summer, and I'm glad I did. For only $40 bucks, I got a dealer gasket along with some Royal Purple to use (any synthetic gear oil will work). When I pulled off the cover, the magnet was completely covered with fine metal particles from the gear. Most likely the magnet did its job, but for only $40 bucks and about an hour of time, why wouldn't you consider this at 30K miles. Mine had just over 30K miles, and I'm glad I didn't wait till the recommended interval of 75K. I drive it under very normal conditions and usually tow a trailer once a year. Don't just check the fluid, change it. It's cheap insurance.
