Problem with seats on 01 Sentra

My sentra has never had comfortable seats but after breaking my hip in June I can't hardly stand it or get in or out of it! I am wondering if anyone knows of another seat that has lumbar support and is more comfortable that would fit in my 01 Sentra GXE? It can't sit up too high because if my hair hits the roof I am claustrophobic and won't be able to drive it then either. HEEELLLLLPPPPP!

Re: Problem with seats on 01 Sentra

Most non-OEM seats tend to be of a bucket style variety but given some creative bracketry just about any seat could be made to fit. If there is a particular car whos seat you like it might be easier to have that one fitted in rather than trying to find an aftermarket seat designed for comfort.

The Impala and PT Cruiser have GREAT seats but I am concerned they will sit my up way too high and it will bother my claustrophobia.

Take some measurements of the total seat height to get an idea of how much room you have to work with. While making a custom set of brackets they could be designed to lower the seat back towards the stock seat position if it begins to get too tall. I'm not really familar with any of the cars mentioned here but I would think the Impala would be closest to the Sentra.

Re: Problem with seats on 01 Sentra

I will see if I can get some measurements on an Impala seat and see how close they come to my sentra's seats.

Can anyone help me with measurements on an Impala seat 04 and newer?

meeh, the sentra seats are awesome. well thats from my perpsective anyway. i have the se, has bucket seats. i think you might like those better. i remember sitting in a gxe, with really comfortable seats as well. i remember it was really soft, and kind of absorbant if you want to call it that to bumps. but thats just me. try a 'se' seat. its a bucket style.

Re: Problem with seats on 01 Sentra

I called a local Nissan dealer that I bought the car from and the service guy researched any options. I was actually asking him if I could purchase a seat out of a Maxima (or another Nissan model) that might work for me. After about 3 days he told me as much as he would love to sell me a new seat, he couldn't find one that would work. I have tried seats out of a Cavalier - the actual seat measurments were very similar but my repair guy said the brackets would make it set up 6" more than my current seats - so that won't work. If I could afford it I would just go buy a different car. I'm so-o-o sick of dealing with this!!!

Re: Problem with seats on 01 Sentra

sounds like you want a pure comfort car, because of your back. maybe you don't sit right in the seat? adjust the seat so its leaning a little towards the back. instead of | it should be like / or so. try that, it'll put a little more emphasis on your lower back. otherwise i have no idea what to tell you.

Hope you have better luck at getting a custom set of brackets built AND installed if you plan on doing it professionally. most shops in my area refuse to do any alteration-type work on vehicle seats, for a number of reasons. The first is liability. A lot of insurance carriers prohibit that type of work performed by shops in case something goes wrong and they are sued because of it. The second has to do with D.O.T. regulations concerning distances and air bag deployment. Any time changes are made in the distance, or height, or anything else concerning the seats extensive paperwork has to be filled out and filed with the D.O.T. and some vehicles have to be recertified. From what I was told in my many conversations with shop owners this has to do with air bag deployment, crash data, and changing of vehicle specifications. Most shops won't do the work because of all the hassels and costs, and those that are willing to do it will charge a great deal for the work. I remember a couple of times trying to help customers out by locating a shop in the area that could do such work, and spending at least a couple of days on the phone with no luck. One time I had to contact GM's division that helps disabled people get modifications done to their vehicles so that they may drive them and found out there were no installers/customizers in my area. I had to go an hour's drive from my location to find the nearest shop that "might" be able to do the work. The shop wanted to see the vehicle first to determine if it was feasible for them to perform the work.

Nice to know somebody, somewhere has some sense. Most metal fabrication shops in the Seattle area will take just about any job.
