2000 SLE Acceleration Problem

The first time I attempt to accelerate after starting the vehicle it will not go past 20 mph. The transmission revs pretty high but goes nowhere. I can stop the car and after that it never does it again.

Last night when I was leaving work it was mildly shuttering in first then it shifted into second and just stopped it wouldn't go anyway. Then I stopped and accelerated again and it was fine.

What is going on? I have no idea.

Sounds like a trans issue, should be scanned for possible trans codes, slippage errors and solenoid functions on a trans capable scanner, there are other possibilities here but this is a starting point if you have good power at high speed/loads. Fluid is full and clean I assume.

Re: 2000 SLE Acceleration Problem

Just had the trans fluid changed. The rpms actually seem to still increase but the speed is stuck. You can tell it is trying to accelerate but can't. I had the mechanic check things out so it seems like if it was something they could have charged me for they would have said something. Could it be programming within the computer?

Re: 2000 SLE Acceleration Problem

Changing the filter has no effect on the PCM/ECM. Never said if 2wd or 4wd but the 4wd uses a deeper stepped pan thus a longer filter. Did you pull the dip stick at operating temp when running and check the level? If this happened right after the filter was changed could be that or he disconnected/cut some wires to the many solenoids in the trans internally or externally. Or as things sometimes go another sensor started failing right after that which was not related. How many miles? Any codes or SES light?

Re: 2000 SLE Acceleration Problem

It's been happening for a while now, before and after fluid changes. It's 4wd with about 127000 miles. Transmission only has about 24,000 miles on it though so it was the first fluid change.
