New Camaro model

Has anybody seen this yet? I can't believe there is a kit already and the car isn't even going to be in production until '08. I was wondrering if anybody has a review of it. It looks pretty cool, I may have to get one and write my own review.

Re: New Camaro model

Seen it and have the kit. Some problems. Sink marks on the wheels and body that need to be worked. The ones on the wheels mean removing the chrome and either Alclad or other option to get the wheels back in shape

Engine block and tranny is generic and not very realistic. In the car, its not really that visible, but keep it in mind if you want to buy an extra for the running gear.

Several modelers have already shown their builds on various message boards.

Re: New Camaro model

I got a bunch in stock as soon as I heard about it. I plan to try and build one if I can get a few moments to myself in the near future--I plan on using an LS1 from an f-body or Corvette tho, the engine detail in this kit is sub-par.

Re: New Camaro model

I have two; one I'm building/photographing for an extended review for Scale Auto. Both of mine have the "typical" small series of sink marks on the body, thankfully neither has the terrible deep wheel sink marks that I've seen on some people's kits. In all honesty the real car didn't have "chrome" wheels, they're polished, and Alclad would be a more realistic finish than the kit chrome anyway. If the kit chrome is acceptably "sink mark free" a coat of Testors Acryl semigloss clear will make the wheels look more authentic.

I'm mostly happy w/the kit prior to actually building it, wish they hadn't taken a few liberties w/the body details like undersized marker lamps, oversized panel line separations for the bumpers, and missing a subtle but important body line detail over the side windows on the roof and C pillar. Hopefully Revell's Camaro concept will happen, and will have the body better defined. I must say though that considering the Camaro is AMT, it's not bad, and could be much, much worse (just look at any of their latest tuners for the F&F movies ).

Re: New Camaro model

Indeed. And agreed on the wheels, I'll be stripping the chrome regardless.

Re: New Camaro model

The Camaro is 1/25. Comparing this new Camaro w/the Polar Lights/Johnny Lightning '04/'05 Pontiac GTO shows that the new Camaro is the same size/wheelbase, and obviously built on a new/updated platform that's very similar to the GTO/Holden Monaro.

Re: New Camaro model

Word is NASCAR is going to muscle cars for the 2008 Grand National series, so this Camaro, the new Mustang, and the new Challenger will be raced. Be cool to see some phantoms based on these kits.

Too bad they're gonna be based off the COT.
