Front End???

1998 Blazer

Okay so for sometime I have had this front passenger side noise, its like a humming noise, only when moving at like at least 20mph, and when I am on a curvy road when the vechile leans off that side the noise stops. But when it is straight the noise is there. Also not sure if this is related but when I go around a corner some times, and only some times I get a big pop/clunk from that same side, that usually occurs at low speed like 5-6mph and I can really feel it. Could anyone diagnose this from my description?.............

Re: Front End???

Sounds like your hub bearings are starting to go...

Re: Front End???

No dis anything - 1 piece so have to buy a complete hub assembly. Three 18mm bolts hold it on.

Re: Front End???

seriously????? Why would they make it so the entire assembly has to be replaced and not just the bearing?

What size socket do I need to break that main hub nut?

Its not possible to repack that bearing is it? Even if I could go a few more weeks that would be good, dont have alot of money right now.

Re: Front End???

Yep, 36mm and all stores sell them usually as hardened black 1/2" drive - loosen with the wheel on the floor before jacking and may need a cheater bar to break the rusted nut free. Then after raising Blazer and removing the hub bolts you will need a large 2 jaw pilley to pull the hub off the axle or a block of wood and 3 lb hammer (don't mess the threads up). Of course the caliper mounting bracket then the rotor has to come off first (18mm again).

Re: Front End???

Yes, replaced wheel hub/bearing and its all good now........The hardest part was getting the old hub off the shaft.

Ended up beating the old hug off with a mall...........3lb hammer lol
