Dual exhuast question?

Dual Exhaust Question.....
I have recvently purchased a truck with a cheap dual exhaust kit on it. It doesn't seem like a true dual exhaust. There is a Y pipe that comes off of the what looks like stock muffler. I no longer want the noise. I was wonder if I can just cut the Y pipe, leaving a couple of inches of pipe for the tail of the muffler. Will this cut the noise to stock standards? Or does the truck have an aftermartket muffler that I need to replace with a stock one?

Re: Dual exhuast question?

well first you are right this is not a true dual exhaust a true dual exhaust would have seperate pipes mufflers cats etc coming from the manifolds on a v-type engine and as far as to atempting to quiet your exhaust your goin to need to replace the muffler the split tailpipe wont make a huge diffrence also when your looking at your exhaust make sure the cat is still in place and is an actual cat alot of kids will replace the cat with a glasspack or remove it all together and that can cause alot of excess noise.

Re: Dual exhuast question?

If the exhaust terminates under the vehicle, it will probably make the exhaust louder.
