Exclamation Water Kills

I have a 1987 cherokee pioneer and i have a problem with it dieing in water,

well when water tuoches the engine. Ive check my distributer and its not

cracked and i was thinking mabye the alternator shorts out when water

hits it. And it wont start up for at least five minutes som times longer and

also I took it threw my buddies pond and it died instantly and would not start

but once they pulled me out far enough out that my engine was out of the

water it started right up. And also i was wondering if S10 leaf springs will fit

under my jeep with out modification.

Re: Water Kills

It sounds like you're getting something shorted out. How deep is the water?

Try this:

Re: Water Kills

I'm thinking something is shorting out. Probably a good idea to check all the wiring that would be exposed at that depth, and also have a read of the thread I posted earlier.

Re: Water Kills

I don't know....does that water level cover up the alternator?

A squeaking alternator (if it's the belt) indicates that there is slippage....you might replace the belt if it's worn, and check the tensioner.

There are many things that could be shorting out while you drive you Jeep in the WATER.

Try this..

Get a garden hose at your house and spray water under the vehicle while it is running (trying to simulate deep water) and see where your spraying when the engine turns off.

Yes... Spray everything that you might thing will be getting wet (o2 sensor, alternator, wiring, everything). This should give you a direction on what to have fixed.

Dodge Dakota leaf springs will work under your Jeep, check this link out:
