I believe your timing, after you set it initially, is controlled by the computer and is continually advanced until the knock sensor senses a spark knock then the computer retards the timing a bit then starts advancing it again over & over.
Have you checked the fuel pressure or maybe the fuel filter?

You might take the fuel line loose from the fuel injection and place it in a jug so you don't spray fuel everywhere, turn the keyswitch on a coupla seconds then off, now check the jug to see what the fuel pump sent to the motor.

Re: Problems with s10 need help badly

i checked the fuel and it didnt have any water in it so i decided to run a compression test on it and on the left back of the motor the cylinder 1 and 3 held 90 pounds of pressure and cylinder 5 held o pounds. So i put a lil oil in the cylinder and it went up to 90 and stayed so im thinkin the piston rings are bad. Im so agervated over this thing im bout ready to sell it the way it sits

I would say you have stuck rings on #5 due to sitting and not being driven. I would get some Marvel Oil and pour about a 1/8 cup into #5 spark plug hole, put the spark plug back and let it soak for a week - then remove the spark plug and turn it over to blow all the Marvel Oil out, replace spark plug and see how it runs. Then do another compression check. If the compression improved significantly, but still not up to at least 50 pounds, do the whole thing again. If you still have zero compression it may have a broken ring.

Actually, 90 pounds of compression is very low, all should be around 120-150 on a good engine. How did #2-4-6 check out?

While doing the compression check did you have all the spark plugs removed and the throttle wide open, (peddle to metal).
