4G63 Head break in
Okay, I already searched. Found a few opinions. Some say to take it easy for the first couple hundred miles. Some say drive at or below 3k rpms for 15-20 minutes to break in the cams. Others say just make sure every contact spot is lubed with oil or assembly lube and boost away.

Re: 4G63 Head break in
Kevin told me no break in, just go for it. I dont know though, I wouldnt be overly worried about it. Just make sure you go hog wild on the assembly lub and it wouldnt hurt to take off the valve cover and pour or a quart or so over the shit when you fill er back up with oil.

Re: 4G63 Head break in
I talked to my shop about this extensively.
The best way to break in your motor is just to drive it normally. You don't want to drag race the hell out of it at first, but you need to let it see boost, so just drive it like you would drive it normally. Don't pussy foot it, but again don't beat the hell out of it.

Re: 4G63 Head break in
I know the break in procedure for a block but, I'm just talking about the head here. I think I'm with you on this one thor. I am just going to lube it up nice and pour some oil with the valve cover off and go for it. I was told with roller rockers there is no need to "break in" the cams.

Re: 4G63 Head break in
Did you soak the lifters in oil before you put them in?

Re: 4G63 Head break in
The shop that I had machine my head also installed the lifters. I do not know if he soaked them in oil. They are slick(I think he put wd40 in/on them) but, other than that I do not know. Since they just slide out I guess I can just slide em out and soak em up. Any other suggestions?

Re: 4G63 Head break in
Yeah just take take them out and stand them upright in a coffee can or something and dump in some oil and let them soak for awhile. I usually let them sit for a day.

Re: 4G63 Head break in
Cool thanks. Should I completely submerge them?

Re: 4G63 Head break in
Is that so the lifters get the oil inside?

Re: 4G63 Head break in
Yes sir, otherwise if they're new and haven't been pre-oiled or they have sat for a long time, the oil sometimes drains out of them and they run dry, and you woudln't want that to happen now, would you?
