Low Coolant Temperature

2001 3.1 152,000 mi Recent SES ODBII indicates Low Coolant Temperature. Car is peforming fine. Has always ran "COOL." Within last 30 days coolant flushed and replaced (DEXCOOL).

I drive 60 miles one way to work on Interstate highways at 80mph. Can pop radiator cap at that time and coolant is not hot!! Suspect bad thermostat.

Are there consequences to running "COLD?"

Question Re: Low Coolant Temperature

it's probably the acculator and it should be right by your heater core..it might be cummed up on the outside of it...and if it is before long it can screw your other heater sensors up..good luck....

Re: Low Coolant Temperature

does the guage on the dash confirm the ses light of coolant temp too low? Does the heater blow warm air or hot air, and take a while to warm up?

I'd just replace the t-stat. thats more than likely the problem. Its not a big problem, and you'll need a new throttle body gasket also.

You have to keep in mind that your car is now 6 years old, and the milage is getting up there. I also had that code and the problems you describe, so i replaced my t-stat and problems are gone.

Not sure what running cool can do to a motor, but it can also damage it.
