95 cavy 2.2, 23-25 mpg sound right?

Hello, I checked the gas mileage on my cavy and figured it is getting about 23-25 mpg, it's a 5 speed, 153k miles, drove under 70 mph on mostly highway miles during this test--new head gasket with head shaved--went thru the engine completely for any probs. BTW, when I start it up sometimes when warm I get a strong gas odor in the interior-was told it could be a injector seal leaking--no visible gas leaks--also told that I might have a bad injector too. Are the injectors hard to replace on this engine--I am mechanically inclined as I pulled the engine/trans/clutch assy and rebuilt about everything on this car. Got into it to far so had to keep going or loose what I put in it. Thank you all for any replies--Happy New Year too.

If an injector was bad or leaking, it would only leak into the engine. So I dont see why you'd get the smell on the inside of the car from that. As far as 25mpg. I woudlnt worry too much about it. Its down a bit from what it's rated from the factory. But back in the day, they didnt test the car when it had 12 years of life and 150+ thousand miles on it.

Have you changed the O2 sensor? That could be making it run a little rich.
