Weird, WEIRD Elec. Probs, PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

Well friends, I finally broke down and bought the transmission range sensor from the dealer this morning, and replaced the one that was on my car, and I am still having the same problem...
For those that dont know, Ill start my story over again!!!
About 8 months ago I was driving my car and my power steering kept going on and off, and the door chime would start dinging, and something that sounded like in my steering column would keep clicking, and my radio would only make sound if the car was in Park, or Neutral. Although the radio wouldnt work in drive, and reverse the unit had power cause the station would continue to show, just no sound from the speakers.. Now the cars power steering is working FINE, and I havent heard the clicking in the column, and the radio is sorta working.. Now the back speakers work all the time, but the front 4 speakers arent working at all!!! My gas gauge still isnt working...... That I can remember that all the problems I am having...
Well I read on the forum a few people that had the EXACT same problems that I was and they brought their car to the shop and it was their Transmission Range Sensor. I kept from buying one thinking hat I would buy it, install it, and it would still have the same problem. Well I broke down this morning and bought one, and replaced the old one, and I am still having the exact same problems... I found another guy on the forum that was having some really weird problems with his tail lights, and other things and found out that he had a short in a wire going to his tail-light that was causing the whole problem... Now I a wondering if My problem might be a short..
After I installed the new TR sensor this morning and it didnt fix the problem, I brought my car to Auto-Zone to have the trouble Codes read. It shows that my O2 Sensor on Bank 1 is throwing a code, but I knew about it, its been throwing that code well before this problem EVER started... what IS new is that I am getting trouble codes thrown from my Torque Converter, and my Shift Seloniod .... I have a Chilton for my car, but it shows, or says NOTHING about a Shift Selonoid, and I cant find anything else on the transmission that might be one, althoug I dont know what im looking for.. Im thinking that maybe I have a short somewhere causing a power loss to the Shift Selonoid and Torque Converter...
Problem is that my Chilton does not show wiring diagrams either...
If anyone has ANY ideas, or knows anyone that might be able to give a few ideas, or suggestions, PLEASE feel free to e-mail me directly at [email protected] .
I am just about at that point where I feel like selling it for what I can get out of it, but the car is paid for, and has been a great car up till this problem...
Again, anyone that can help, or might can throw a few suggestions, of tell me where the Shift Selonoid is, I would be greatly appreciative!!!!!

Thanks Again:
S. Wesley Moore

Hi, Yes you do have an electrical problem, But if I were you I would bite the bullet and take it to a Ford or Merc dealer and have them do the job, You are not going to find it without the factory service and electrical diagram manuals, the proper scanner and vom, Good Luck, Clay..

Re: Weird, WEIRD Elec. Probs, PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

Clay, thanks for the reply. As far as I know I did... I made sure that the car was in park. When I removed the old sensor, I turned the revolving part and counted the number of "clicks"/positions it was in, and it was turned all the way counterclockwise, so I made sure that the new one was all the way counterclockwise before installing it.
As far as I know thats the only way I could have screwed up, but I really dont think that I did.
It really ticks me off that cars today, or even back in 97' were so damn complicated. A sensor going out can effect so many diffrent things. What really gets me is how it can effect only part of the radio. The rear speakers work fine, but the front ones don't. Why would they design a car like that!! I will never buy another Ford product.. Although all cars are probably just as bad! effects thwe power steering, radio, elec. windows, door chime, gas gauge, air conditioner/heater, and a was a clicking sound in the steering column that would make the power steering go in and out. Thankfully that hasn't happened lately!
I'm currently in the middle of repacing the head gaskets! They blew when my brother was borrowing my car. Once I get it all back together, I dont know what I will do with the crappy car!
Thanks clay!

Re: Weird, WEIRD Elec. Probs, PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

Hi, I'm back, Here's the deal, First of all did you purchase an OEM TR sensor? Next, If so, It MUST be installed in NEUTRAL, There 2 lines on the sensor, One on the WHITE center that rotates, The other on the black body, They MUST align in Neutral, I sure hope this helps, Once again, OEM sensor? Never trust a after market sensor on a ford product. Bye, Clay, PS. Thanks for the thank you, They are few and far between,,,,,See Ya,,,,,

Re: Weird, WEIRD Elec. Probs, PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

Clay,
Thanks again for getting back with me. No, I didnt do all that... I just installed it and made sure that the car was in park, and that the white part that turns was in the same "position" as the old one.
Yes, I bought the TR Sensor from Ford, it's Motorcraft.
As soon as I get my engine back together, Ill give it another try using your directions. Maybe this is and has been the whole issue all this time!
I just cant beleive that one thing can make so many diffrent things go crazy like this. Just seems stupid to me. Im getting ready to go to auto tech. school, so it should all become a bit more clear real soon! lol....
Thanks again Clay...
Hope you have a great New Year!
