Question Source of your knowledge

Just wondering where everyone learned what they know about their cars? I will admit, I am a newb at working on my car. I know a few little things, but I am lost on most of the egine work. What would be a good way to learn all this? I know they have some books out on explaining everything. Anyone ever read one?

Yea, I figured this board would help alot. Right now I'm taking Collision Repair in College. That should teach me how to do all the body work I need to know, just gotta get some books and learn the engine work and other stuff like that. I already know a lot on wiring stuff, since I started off as a stereo freak.

I have been planning on getting that chilton book, just gotta get money again. After that I'm getting all the other books I can find.

Most of mine has come from trial and error over 18 years now. I tend to listen to what people say and then work from there. Hanging around people who race Hondas helps - circuit racing etc that is, I'm not a big 1/4 mile fan. Not to say I don't respect 1/4 mile cars, I just can't get into it.

Plus I do a hell of a lot of reading up on things before I start on a project - regardless of what it is.

I have learned everything I know about cars from Automotive Forums and PureHonda.com. It's insane how much you can learn about cars off the 'net in a year and a half.

I learned a lot from my old CRX. When something would breakdown, I would fix it. Back in the old days PH was full of tech info. That was a good source. Now I learn by reading and working on my car.

Well if you lived around me I would, no problem. That is what I wish I could find around here, a nice import shop, so I can get some hands on experience.

ive been helping my dad work on cars since i was like 6, whenever something broke i would go out there and get tools for him and watch him work on his camaro. so i grew up being a car person. not to sound full of my self, but i am smart so i just go look at a problem and its easy to figure out. i havent come across a problem i couldnt fix. i help all my friends with there cars whenever they need anything, brakes, mods, etc. i just learned through experience. cars are easy to figure out if your smart enough to look at stuff and figure it out. experience is the best also watching people work on their cars and asking question is a good way too.

i grew up as a muscle car guy but now i a honda guy. muscle car and imports are the same mechaniclly so its easy. and wiring, well i work as an eletrician so wiring is easy
