Engine racing

I have an intermittant problem with my 1997 3.2 engine. Sometimes it when I come to a stop at will idle at 3000 rpm and then slowly come back down. Other times it will die. I am thinking it may be the mass airflow sensor but before I shell out $150.00 I would like to feel better that this is the problem.

Re: Engine racing

There is a rubber boot on the throttle cable that over time breaks down and gums up the wire which can cause the throttle to stick (search the site for more info).

Re: Engine racing

before you go through that whole regimen, i suggest you read or get read the OBDII codes, which if any, will point you in the right direction.

as to the rubber boot, it wouldn't cause the engine to die (but it damn near scared the death out of me when mine stuck open -- yikes, lots higher than 3k too)

Re: Engine racing

Maybe clean the IAC valve too. It's mounted on the front of the TB. It has 2 screws and one plug to undo.
