Quad cab door problem

I have a 1999 Ram 1500 Quad Cab.

Recently, out of the blue, the rear passenger door won't open (from inside or out.)

I cannot see any screws on the door trim panel so I can remove it. I assume there is a cable, etc. that probably broke. Anyone know how to remove the panel?

Re: Quad cab door problem

To start with there are two screws within the inside grab handle of the suicide door that can be removed, and if the back trim is anything like the front door trim the rest will be snaps.

If that didn't work I'd remove the two torx screws on the outside handle of the suicide door.

Re: Quad cab door problem

I am having the same problem, and the door handle broke due to someone pulling on it too hard when the latch was stuck. I opened up the door panel from the inside, as much as I could, anyways, and the door handle is broken where it attatches to the rod that operates the latch at the bottom of the door. When I push/pull on that rod manually, it seems as if the latch is locked or siezed.

Let us know if you make any headway in releasing the door, cause I can't seem to get mine unstuck.

thanks,
Mike

Re: Quad cab door problem

I know that this problem may have been solved by now, but both rear doors on my 99 quad cab have experienced the same. It has been a while but I think the way I did the repair was to take out the torx screws on the handle assembly that meets the front door. Then carefully pull on the rod that fell off the rig to open the latch. Needle nose pliers or small hands. then remove screws from inside handle and Pull Cup (which should have had an ashtray)- then pull panel off and tear off the plastic over the access holes reattach the crappy linkage then hope the one time use plastic inserts aren't to messed up and snap it back together. Most auto parts stores carry these inserts. Also I suggest lubricating the latch at top and bottom. When the rear doors start requiring more effort to open when pulling on the handle between the doors I take the thing apart and check the cheap plastic retainers and lube the latches. Good Luck to anyone who this may benefit.
