Aston Martin DB5. Help needed on correct color and aftermarket rims!
I juts got lucky and got my hands on an old 1/24 Airfix Aston Martin DB5-kit. I wanted to make one of these since I started modelling. But - as I expected - the rims in the kit are just aweful. So I was wondering, if anybody of you know, where I can find aftermarket spokerims, which make a good match for the actual car.
Besides that, I hvae no clue how to match the greyish silver most of the cars show. I´m only using spraycans and I think that the Tamiya Silver Leaf TS-30 is not dark enough to match the actual body color. Can anybody help with this as well. For that you all know what I talk about I add a reference shot: ![]() Thanks for your help, Robert

Re: Aston Martin DB5. Help needed on correct color and aftermarket rims!
There are some fantastic looking wire wheels by Renaissance and Sakatsu at mediamix hobby. The only problem is they probably cost about 3 times the price of the Airfix kit.Have a look using the search box.
http://www.mediamixhobby.com.sg/cata...p?currency=GBP You could try Hiroboy for the paint. He could probably mix up the exact colour for that DB5.

There aren't any aftermarket rims of that exact style, the best alternative are the rims from the Tamiya Jaguar Mk II or maybe their Morgan kit.

I'd say that the best alternative is this:
http://www.mediamixhobby.com.sg/cata...oducts_id=3010 They have two problems: 1. The Price!!! 2. They are meant for slot cars, so they have closed backs. -Niko

Re: Aston Martin DB5. Help needed on correct color and aftermarket rims!
What scale is this kit? Airfix did a DB5 in both 1:32 and 1:24. The 1:32 is a '60s kit which has been reissued many times & the 1:24 is recent (last 10 / 15 years) - IIRC, a reboxed Aoshima

Colour could be SNOW SHADOW GREY 1965-71. (this was the only silver used around the time.)
Order through the website if you want any mixed up. Cheers, Paul. |

Re: Aston Martin DB5. Help needed on correct color and aftermarket rims!
The Morgan/Jaguar MkII wheels are actually a very good option IMO.
I have both kits and the wheels are WAY abouve your normal plastic wire wheel offering (mind you they aren't as good as P/E of course).

Re: Aston Martin DB5. Help needed on correct color and aftermarket rims!
Hello Robert:
I'm doing one of those as well. I have to choose between TS-17 or TS-76... and I'm leaning towards TS-76... Are you planning to find replacements(or make your own parts) for anything aside from the wheels? I'm trying to replace the headlamp covers (heat and smash?) and the grille(styrene strips?). Good Luck! Lewis |

Re: Aston Martin DB5. Help needed on correct color and aftermarket rims!
Just seen your edit. As it's the 1:24, then I also recommend the Tamiya Morgan or Jag Mk2 wheels - they are truly superb! The Jag ones will be slightly fatter, & therefore more appropriate than the Morgan ones

Re: Aston Martin DB5. Help needed on correct color and aftermarket rims!
Can't help with the paint but I have a spare set of Jaguar MKII wheels (unused) that you are welcome to if you want them. Drop me a line on the private message board with your address and I'll get them off to you.
Cheers - Martin |
