Low Coolant Light on 01 Grand Prix

The low coolant light has been staying on for a few minutes after I start the car but does eventually go off. I'm not low on coolant and don't seem to be loosing any. I stopped at one mechanic today and he said it was a normal problem and that there really isn't a permanent fix for it.

Anyone heard of this before? This is a 3100 Engine in an 01 Grand Prix SE with 96K miles. I'm not overheatinig and I have plenty of heat.

I had the same problem with my 2000. It will eventually stay on. If the coolant levels are ok the low coolant sensor is probably going bad. you can remove it to clean it or just replace it. I replaced it on mine. If I remember correctly the sensor is on the passenger side of the radiator. Maybe some else can chime in with some directions. It has been a few years since mine went bad.

If it's that simple, I'll just try and replace it. I have a repair manual for that car somewhere.

These sensors corrode over time and usually need to be cleaned or replaced. Replacement is not difficult but use a conductive thread sealer not teflon tape as it may interfere with the electrical connection.
