for the money... B20 or H22 both built

well me and a few buddies are looking into wat would be a good engine to drop into our 1989 honda crx... the engine runs, but we just want something bigger... we wish to keep it n/a so we were looking at larger displacement engines... mostly the b20/vtec and the h22/vtec... we were wondering which one of these would be the better choice to still have it as a daily driver with no problems and also be a weekend street terror... both would be wat we call built.... cleaned and relseeved and bored block/new internals/new head i/h/e... the whole thing... this is our project car for the team and we plan on doin everything to it... suspension/engine/body/interior the works... so just hit it back please... peace

NEVER run a B20 block. Just take an LS block and sleeve it.
As for Bseries vs. Hseries....
The H22 has a little more potential for maximum power, but it uses a shitty geared tranny. An Hseries build will max out around 300 whp whereas the B will make out around 280 whp. The Bseries is a better designed motor and although the H may make a bit more power, it would peak alot earlier than the B which is not what you want for drag racing, although it would be a better candidate for autocrossing.
Go for the B.

Re: for the money... B20 or H22 both built

see i'm a h23 (kinda) guy cause i dabbled with um..but a jdm h22a is pretty sweet with a h23 5spd....always been bias with the b series..so i also have to agree with Jordan..a B series is one of ur best candidates for a sweet n/a build minus K's of course..keep in mind..ppl harp H's for being heavy..but its true the reasoning behind them being heavier is due to the tranny..i heard block to block a H might weight a few more pds then a b..me weight isnt much of a issue after me and my friend Pablo who is 53yrolds lifting a h22a with auto tranny like it was a lightweight..

Re: for the money... B20 or H22 both built

kk. thanks for the responses guys. now wat exactly is wrong with running a b20 block? isnt it just the same as the b18 just with a larger bore? anyways seeing as how u guys r puching for the b-engine, wat is it exactly that makes the h-engine so bad? or just not as good as a b-engine... alos here is a list of everything that we're planning on doin to the engines just so u guys can get a better idea....

B-SERIES
-b20 or b18 block
-bore: 86mm
-resleeved
-b18 or b20 aftermarket crank
-stroke: 89mm
-completly done
-b16b aftermarket rods
-rod length: 142mm
-r/s: 1.60 (pretty decent)
-aftermarket pistons
-completly done VTEC head
this engine is goin to make about 2.068L ~ 2.1L so it'll be a B21/VTEC. i think that's pretty sick shit there. we're estimating about 220bhp/165btq ~ 198whp/149wtq. and we're gonna tear the crx down and build it back up with lightweight parts, so guessing about 2000lbs, give or take 15lbs. pretty decent power : weight

now the other choice

H-SERIES
-h22 block
-bore: 89mm
-resleeved
-aftermarket crank
-stroke: 91mm
-completly done
-h22 aftermarket rods
-length 143mm
-r/s: 1.57(not as good but not bad)
-aftermarket pistons
-completly done VTEC head
this engine will make about 2.263L ~ 2.3L. H23/VTEC, nice ring to it. this is also some pretty sick shit, just more of it. more power ability and more weight. also more work, but it seems liek it might be worth it. we're estimating about 240bhp/190btq ~ 216whp/171wtq. even better with the weight, but u also have to factor in the extra 100lbs from the set-up. even still seems great.

now i'm not the one who knows all this shit about the engines, i'm just the only one who has an account on here and isnt a lazy bastard who is retarded wen it comes to computers and being social. so this is our plan for the crx.

also, just so everyone knows. we are building this car to sell it eventually. we're planning on take about 9 months to build it and break it in. then we're goona sell it and move on to another build. not quite sure wat the next one will be, but this is ours for now. so in about 1 year have ur eyes peeled for this thing. it'll be sick shit all up and down.

holla back ya'll

Both retarded builds. Sorry. You can make 225 whp out of a stock ITR block.

never understood the whole putting a ton of $ and work into building up a car, just to sell it in a short period of time. the only way you'll get all or even most of your $ back is if you find some idiot kid who doesn't know any better.
