Leaky Roof

The roof of our Montana is leaking rainwater from the rear interior light.

As far as I can figure, it appears to be coming from the rubber corrugated "conduits" that runs from the roof of the van to the top of the hatch.

I was thinking about sealing them up with some silicone caulk, but I wondered if anyone else had any experience with this and had a better idea.

I've never heard of a leak in the location you mention. Usually on these vans, (Montana/Venture/Silhouette) it's in the windshield area. Mine started leaking in the middle of the front of the windshield and water comes in through the interior light in the front.It was caused by a small rust spot. Have you checked to see if there may be a blockage in the path that the water takes to exit the van? Sometimes debris can collect and back up the flow of water, and the water tries to find another easy way to flow. If you can't locate a possible reason for the water "change course" and leak on the inside then I would try using some silicone caulk. Keep an eye out afterwards to make sure you didn't inadvertenly route the water to another area and cause another leak. I saw this happen one time to a customer's vehicle who tried something similar.You might also try your local auto body supply shop and see what they would recommend. Sometimes their counterpeople have some good knowledge and share it with the customer on how to solve their problem(s).It's worth a try and might save you some money.

I used silicone caulk pretty liberally around the area. The van has gone through the car wash and sat out in a hard rain one night and there is no leak so far. I think it's fixed.

Hope it stays that way for you. I'd check it every once in awhile to make sure it still is sealing, and apply more caulk if you feel it may need it. Good luck.
