Dual 12" Enclosure debate (What will work best for what I want?)
Hello guys,
I have read a bunch of posts with debating between efficiency and benefits of sealed, ported, bandpass etc subwoofer enclosures, yet I am still unable to figure out exactly what will sound best with my setup: 2 12" Alpine Type-Ss Rockford Fosgate P8002 amplifier Both have RMS handing of 300 watts. I listen to MANY types of music. ROCK, RAP, TRANCE are the 3 most listened genres. As I understand, I have enough power and large enough subs to have powerful bass with a sealed box. But would it sound too dull for rock music? I have had a single 10" bandbass before and it wasnt very lound, yet it was ok for its size. The only thing it produced too much bass in rap music and too little in rock records, so I was constantly changing output level of the amp with little remote it came with. As you see, Im looking to achive both quality + loudness. Im looking for a balance, to be able to listen to listen to different music without sacrificing much quality. Would I have enough MID bass with the ported? I have decent speakers in the back of the car and all Im really looking for is crisp sound, not a car vibrator.

Re: Dual 12" Enclosure debate (What will work best for what I want?)
I just just read some people prefer ported for rock music.
Would you agree?? I was first going to build a very unique custom box, even bought a plan for 10 dollars, but now it looks like Ill just buy a box to same time. Q-logic boxes seem interesting to be, even though theyre kinda pricey. But the fact that some models allow conversion between sealed and ported sounds interesting. What do ya say about this one?: http://www.qlogic.ws/products/q_encl...228&classID=55

Re: Dual 12" Enclosure debate (What will work best for what I want?)
I listen to a wide variety of genres so i can sort of relate to this problem. If you can live without the booming rap bass you can get with a ported, then sealed is probably okay. My 2 cents, I don't think you can go wrong with any enclosure you choose. I think it's pretty hard to have a sub setup to satisfy ALL types of genres & styles. The way the box is built is one thing to factor (i dunno much about this area though) but another thing that helps a lot is a good receiver. You didn't mention anything about that. Being able to make custom equalizers, control SW volume, and other things will make quite a difference in how the music sounds. This is what i have http://www.refurbdepot.com/productde...rerid=dealtime
one of panasonic's older model receiver. equalizers or bass & treble controls, sw volume, and high/low frequency cutoffs are my options and really have made a difference in my vehicle soundstage compared to other decks i've had and my speakers are stock.

http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/product...&lang=en&tab=F
• Optimum Sealed Box Volume : 1.25 cu.ft. • Optimum Vented Box Volume : 1.5 cu.ft. • Recommended Box Types : Sealed/Vented/Bandpass • Recommended Sealed Box Volume : 0.85 - 1.5 cu. ft. Looks like im going with 1.25 one. The other option- 1.75 way too big. Thank you for help.

Re: Dual 12" Enclosure debate (What will work best for what I want?)
A sealed box would probably be your best bet. Especially because of your wide music genre prefrences. I use a sealed box and I listen to the same type of genres and it sounds great but its not too overbearing like you might get with a ported box.

Re: Dual 12" Enclosure debate (What will work best for what I want?)
I went ahead and ordered Q-Logic QLH-1.2512DS Subwoofer Enclosure from CarDomain for buck thirty. Its sealed and ported (convertable).
I guess Ill make my choice subjectively
