Screaching Window

I have owned my 2006 Impala for about 3 or 4 months. I noticed when I was test driving the first Impala that when I rolled the driver side window down, it made a screaching sounds. I figured the car may have been sitting there a while so I just thought it was nothing. I didn't buy that Impala but found a similar one at another dealership. After purchasing the Impala, I started to hear that same screaching sound from the window when I roll it down. It wast that bad at first and I thought it may go away with more use but it hasn't gone away. Has anyone else had this problem and what can be done? It sounds like something is rubbing against the window and I have seen small marks on the outside of the window that may eventually become scratches.

Re: Screaching Window

pull the door panel off and check the rub strips near the top of the door, they may be misadjusted or coming apart.

Re: Screaching Window

I also have a 2006 impala, mine also screached. I had a 99 alero that did the same thing but it was with all the windows, they all ended up scratched.

After my impala started screaching, I took a look below the rubber seal at bottom of the outside of the window. There is another rubber wiper there also. Mine was covered in dirt. I held the top rubber back and cleaned the lower rubber, then put a rubber dressing on it. Haven't had any more problems with it.

By the way, when it was wet, it didn't screach. Only when it was dry did it make noise.

Re: Screaching Window

Thanks, I will try cleaning the rubber strip before I take the whole door panel off. What did you clean it with? Alcohol, windex, or just plain soap and water? And you're right, when it's real cold and also when it's raining, it doesn't make the noise.

Re: Screaching Window

I cleaned it with a toothbrush (that was all I could get in there) with very little dish detergent and water, then put some gel ArmorAll on it with either a q-tip or the toothbrush, I can't remember which since it's been about 5 months since I did it. I got a little smear from the ArmorAll for a few days but a couple of cleanings and it stopped and has been fine with no problems, no more sqeaks or smears. Good Luck.

Re: Screeching Windows

My 2004 impala never had the horrible window screech problem that my 2006 has. It only goes away when we wash the car and get the felt guides nice and wet.

I'm not going to be washing my car every other day for eternity. There has to be a permanent fix for this problem. The glass is getting scratched

Screach Screech Squeal Squeel Squeak Squeek horrible awful noise scratch
