Shift AT 96 Astro Van Error Codes 0753, 0758, 1860, 1864
Last night ,,, My 1996, Chevy Cargo V6 4.3 L Astro Van,, Automatic Tranny , Check Engine , Code Light code light,, went off.. indicating some problem, with shifting solenoid... I can't see the PRNDL, on my LED,, but I was able to get the Van Home .....
I had a Code Reader, handy ,and read, the Codes, before going in for Christmas dinner, and drink,,, I was able to get the Horse home 20 miles,, on the freeway . at Midnight ,,it was weird, trying to get it going from a standstill,,, so I Manual shifted it in 1, 2, 3, then to D 1996, Astro Van 75K Miles.. 0753 Shift Solenoid A, Electrical 0758 Shift Solenoid B Electrical 1860 Converter Solenoid Circuit (HMD) 1864 Converter Solenoid Circuit (HMD) Can somebody direct me , to what in the Hell is going on here... I had the Mechanic replace a Oxygen senser around the Tranny last year, and he fooled around with the wiring , which was a in a tight place to get it plugged in properly In... What are we looking at here, in terms of malfunctioned parts, Location , or labor if a DIY can do it ... Gary T California I was looking at these Pictures from another Post : http://www.therupertsonline.com/jon/...trotrans2.html Last edited by gat1954; 12-27-2006 at 01:11 PM. |

sounds like a loose or dirty cable connection to get that many codes at once. sometimes just unplugging it and replugging it will clean it up and make the connections good again.

have you cleared codes and see what comes back? Is it still acting up? I think there is a TSB on PCM wiring that will do things like that. But need some proper testing and do not rule out the ign switch. First check for power to solenoids. Not that no one here on AF does not know what they are doing on it but. Here is a link to a good transmission expert. Run a post and Ask for Transman. And give him all of the info you can on it. http://www.batauto.com/Forums/index.php?board=5.0

Plugged it back in,,, the PRNDL, lights came back on... and ran and erased the codes,,and ran, the vehicle, and they didn't come back.. ,,,after 5 minutes. but now my Whipers don't work,, .... ,, have to find that fuse, but it's raining out, check that Later. ! Thank you for all the Help... I wonder what the Transmission shop, would have charged me, as I was going to bring it in !! |

It depends on the transmission shop what they would have done. We hope the fuses fixes everything. If not it will need more testing. If my memory is right there is a transmission pcm wiring problem on some that calls for a wiring replacement. Good luck MT

Re: Shift AT 96 Astro Van Error Codes 0753, 0758, 1860, 1864
It was all FUSE problems so Far.... Checked the Fuses, and Re-Seated a few , . ,,
For some reason, I found a Protective Plastic Box ,with spare Fuses, Fuse Pull clip, in the Large Center Side Counsel box, between the ,seats. and I then placed this around, the Fuse Holder , but it seems to hang so close to the Break Pedel,... must be some way this hangs, or clips to something else,, to keep it out of the Foot area ! I located the Wiper Fuse,, which looked ok,, and I pulled it anyway, and reseated it , Now the Windshield wipers work.. IT sure looks like, these Fuses, need to be in snug, and tight. I just obtained the Astro Cargo 1996 Van, 70K Miles, for $ 850 Dollars, after repairs, from a front end collision, from a Private party, neighbor, that has a drinking problem, and He started Having these problems.. Looks like he had long legs, and was kicking the fuse Box ! It still needs front airbags, and a reinstallation of the AC Condenser, in front, Horn doesn't work, both Windows! The Check Engine Light factory also , Originally, was missing one of the Four Oxygen sensors...... because there was a Metal Plug in one of the Exhaust Headers , and the Mechanic added the Fourth one, on after suspecting one of the other three banks was Bad,, in which he destroyed,, cutting it off.. by Mistake , not knowing there was supposed to be four Oxy sensors! Of course the dealereship, in Encintas California, repair dued, insisted that there was just 3,, but Of course he didn't reimburse me for his error,, but I'm happy to have the Smog and the Registaration tags,.. So it Smogged ok,,, and now I have to figure out the Windows, why they don't go up and down..... I suspect it's the Motors,, as I hear, a little power trying to knudge them.... It's VERY important for People to Leave COMPLETE Feedback in these Forums, to show the start, of the Symptoms,, the Diagnosis,,and the Cure to the Problem,,, as these threads, are saved, and archived for furture readers ! Happy New Year 2007 Everyone... |
