99 Grand AM PROBLEMS

Hey, I'm new to the forums and I've had some growing problems with my 1999 Grand AM.

To begin with, there is a high pitched squealing noise that seems to be coming from near the alternator. Also, I've just replaced the battery two months ago because it wouldn't hold a charge, and now it seems as though it still won't hold a charge, so I believe this might be an alternator problem.

Also, there seems to be a leak somewhere in the power steering system. Just replaced the power steering pump last year so I'm not sure what the problem could be now. I figure it might be related to the alternator problem because it is relatively nearby.

Has anyone ever had similar problems and does anyone have any advice? I'm home from college for a few weeks and hope to get it fixed soon.

Re: 99 Grand AM PROBLEMS

Welcome to AF !

The alternator is failing.
The bearings are whats sqealing.

On the power steering(PS) leak, could be your lines as they do leak. Replaced both on my SE a few years back, what a pain!
Also check the line that has the hose clamp on it ,
if its not tight, its lower pressure, but still can leak.

Merry Christmas !
