OK, what did I brake?
I was installing a new battery on my son's 97 GP GT, and when removing the old one, it pinched and broke a small hard plastic line. The line is slightly less than the thickness of a pencil, and it broke clean in two. When it broke, I heard a hissing noise for about 5-6 seconds as presumably air drained from the line. I have no idea what it's for. I used duct tape (good ole' duct tape) to tape it back together for now. The line was near the passenger wheel well, just to the left bottom of the battery, along the same path as another wiring harness or two. Does anyone have any ideas what it was? When I started the car, I didn't see any warning lights. |

Re: OK, what did I brake?
The sound you heard is actual vacuum from the engine from the engine intake system.
That 1/8" plastic line is the accessory vacuum line that feeds the HVAC system a vacuum source to control vents and airflow. The source is the Y connector on the backside of the upper intake manifold plenum and it feeds into the firewall with the main wiring harness to the cabin and the vacuum distribution block under the dash by the blower motor. It is best to get it repaired properly.
