2002 escort ZX2

how do i remove the top speed governor on a 2002 ford escort ZX2? someone told me to remove my cupholder and it is as simple as cutting a wire? is there any truth to this? is there aother way to do it? any input would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
Unfortunately it is not as easy as snipping a wire. The wire "they" are referring to is the speed sensor going to the input of the computer. What hapens is that even though the computer might not exactly have the input data directly from the sensor, it can still tell how fast you are going based on what gear you are in and at what RPMs the engine is running at.

Bottom line is, this thing is totally computer controlled and it looks like there is no easy way to bypass it unless you know of someone who can replace the chip inside the computer to make the governor different.

So far I have not heard of anything but it you do I would also like to know.
