Big Dawg street/strip Supra

Lurker here... this is my first true "build" all the other models i've done, I painted with crappy brushes and testors enamel and finished them within a day. I'll take all the time in the world on this one.

Aiming at replicating a street driven (but not street legal) 1000+ RWHP Supra geared towards drag racing.

For starters, the wimpy stock tires HAD to go. It's already gotten expensive... grabbed a Xanavi R34 GT-R kit and stole the wheels & tires then proceeded to make some room in the wheel wells and modified the rear suspension to take the fat rear tires. Not bad, but time consuming. Then, I swapped the already good Supra TT brakes for the Xanavi RS4's JGTC-level brakes... which should help bring it to a stop quickly I didn't do anything fancy with the shocks, as the wheels mostly hide all that, so I painted them yellow. We'll call them custom Penske shocks

Enough babbling, on to PICS!!!!!!

test fitting 12/20/06:

View of the wheels:

Painted & assembled today:

Oh man look at that ass... this is why I love Supra's:

I'm using a previously screwed up model for a test mule. First order of business? Custom HKS Ti 4" exhaust & downpipe. It's KS aluminum tubing, I picked up their nifty little tubing benders

As it sits, it hooks up to the stock turbo's. That will change

Re: Big Dawg street/strip Supra

Nice rubber! I especially like how it tucks JUST A LITTLE at the top of the wheel well, and also now it kinda gives the Supra that old school American muscle stance, where the tail is higher than the nose.

The body isn't even close to being ready for paint yet... when i'm ready to do the body, i'll prep it. But that's about a month down the road yet.

Re: Big Dawg street/strip Supra

Got a chance to tinker with the Supra today...

I now have a rolling chassis

Upclose & personal with the front brakes:

Had to trim the front wheels... this Supra has to turn, too

Nice... we've got a roller

Base coat & preliminary fit of the engine

So, now i'm kinda at a standstill. Not much more general assembly left, need to start the custom (read: fun) stuff

[edit] here is a reference pic for the engine bay. Here's to hoping Tamiya Clear Blue looks good over the silver I sprayed!!

The routing on that car (which belongs to Keith Ta) was done because of the sheer size of a Thumper turbo. It simply won't fit otherwise. Turbonetics Thumper-series turbos range from 91mm to 106mm vs the standard 66/67-74mm popular turbos seen on Supra's. I may not replicate the turbo mounting on this particular model, as it's more of a street build, and that is definitely a dedicated race car. Mainly replicating the color scheme, etc.

Next build is a full on trailered drag Supra, so watch out
