I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find a drawing, or a schematics pics for a 2.8 engine. I'm having oil leaks and my mechanic asked me if I can find a picture so he can find where he needs to repair the engine or replaces gasgets. If you can help, I would appreciate it. I do not know of an online drawing, but you might be able to search for one as suggested. However, if your mechanic is not familiar with a 2.8 I would suggest you go to Advance Auto and pick up a Haynes manual. Not expensive, would have information he could use.

The mechanic that is going to fix your car is asking you to get pics of the engine, is this a professional, if so find another one!

Yes, he's my father, and he asked me to find a engine schematic for my car to see how to get in and around the engine the easiest way possible.

I have an 88 GM vehicle with the 2.8L engine. The last major oil leak I fixed, came from the oil pump drive mechanism. That o-ring was hard as a rock, it leaked on top of the engine and ran down the back side and dripped off the bottom, it took me a while to track it down.

My vehicle doesn't have a distributor, the oil pump drive mechanism is right there where the dist. used to be. You might feel around there and see if it is oily.

I don't think a manual will do you any good, an old high mileage engine can leak oil just about anywhere, usual places. If you have alot of blowby, your not going to stop oil leaks, but you might be able to slow it down a little.

Thank you very much, that is what I was looking for. I just need to get the major leak fixed to deal with the winter, and I'll put new gasgets all around over the summer, when it's warmer. Thanks again.

In case you cannot stop the leak you might want to try oils for higher mileage engines, as they will help a little unless the leak is severe. They help soften seals up and I have had success with them, again, for minor leaks. Heavier oils will help too, but are rougher on the engine. Sounds like you were given a good place to look first, hopefully this is the problem. good luck.
