Re: 420A turbokit

Alright well silvr is gonna jump all over so i will be the nice one. Im assuming by safe you mean the most PSI you can run with the least of equipment basically all you need it a plumbed turbo, wastegate, and exhaust manifold. The safest amount of boost you can run is oh 3-4 psi. Even though your running really low the car will start to wear and then its time to refresh the motor with low comp pistons and strong rods. Thats all that i can help you with id go with a nice kit right off the bat so you wont have to worry so much.

Re: 420A turbokit

Ok, even though this has been covered MANY times over, I am going to let this stay open. Just be sure to give a quick search before you make a new thread, ok?

It all really depends on what you are aiming for. Everyone has got their own theories on what to do, so just so you know you will get probably 4-6 people putting down what they think you should do and what the 420a can take and they will all be different.

When modding a car, you have to do one thing first.... decide what your goals are. If you just want some extra power and not a 500 whp monster (as I feel you want) heres what I would do. First off, buying an already turbo DSM is going to be much easier and cost effective than turboing the 420a. I know that there is a good bit of attachment to ones car so I wouldnt just expect you to dump it off. If you want to turbo the 420a for some moderate power levels, heres what I would personally do:

You can do it with less than I would, but I am just a bit paranoid and I would rather overbuild than underbuild. I would start off doing some preventative stuff. Getting a better headgasket and some ARP's will keep you from popping head gaskets right off the bat. Then upgrading your fuel pump, FPR, injectors, and a fuel control device will allow you to flow enough fuel for the extra air you will stuffing in the engine. Now you need to start on the turbo setup itself. Some people do it the other way around, but I wouldnt. Then you will need the turbo, exhaust manifold, down pipe and catback, oil and depending on what turbo water lines for the turbo, an intercooler, intercooler pipes, a BOV, different plugs, and probably a few other misc. shit I forgot. Depending on who you know and whether you are comfortable with buying used shit, you should be able to get 'er done for much cheaper than any Hahn or equivilent kit.

Re: 420A turbokit

Completely depends upon what product. Some things such as ebay brand exhausts, manifolds, and FMIC's are acceptable (though there is much debate about the FMIC's) whereas things like the ebay brand fuel pressure regulators, turbos, BOV's, and wastegates shouldnt be trusted. No matter what it is, as long as its a trusted brand it could be ok as long as its not too worn.

Re: 420A turbokit

Some of that stuff is good, some isin't. It really depends on what it is. Are you trying to piece together a kit or just buy one. Buying a kit will be much easier but also more expensive. If you are set on building your own then you need to research a lot more. Check out GSgoinfast article on turboing a 420a. It has enough info to get you pointed in the right direction.
