Redlining my H22A...

My brother borrowed my car only a few times and 2 of those times he would do a burnout with it, redlining the the motor for no more than 3-4 seconds. I banned him from using the car ever again and when I drove it drives normal to me. My question is, could there be anything wrong with the motor from those 2 times he did that (a friend of mine told me not to worry about it, but I would rather get the opinion of you guys). I mean the car drives normal to me, but you can say I'm concerned. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Re: Redlining my H22A...

what kind of moron borrows a car and does burnouts?

your motors fine, just dont let him drive it anymore. about the only way to damage it is if he misses a shift like going from 3 to 2 in stead of 3 to 4 and over revs it that way. any otherway and the rev limiter will stop you from breaking stuff

Re: Redlining my H22A...

ive had mine pegged to the bottom of the redline (the ecu actually shuts it down at about 8,000)about 50 times. 105,000 still strong as hell
honda makes some tuff engines.

Re: Redlining my H22A...

I was on the highway with a friend, and we were fooling around, passing people, and since I have the sequential shift in my car, I pulled it down on accident, which put me into second gear, and my needle shot up the tacho, but nothing major happened. The lude can take a beating. I slid off the highway about a week ago because of black ice or something stupid, and all that happened was a tweaked bumper. It sucks, but at least it's not totaled right! The point is, the h22a is like Rocky Balboa. Just one crazy freakin' motor. :P I heard that Dodge wants to replace their 8.3L V-10 with the h22a in the viper. Just kidding.

Re: Redlining my H22A...

^^^ accidental downshifting can blow most motors on a manual trans but the sportshift computer is designed to lockout downshift commands if it would cause danger to the drivetrain.

basicly on the upshift for either there is a revlimiter that you can bounce off of with no problem and the auto prevents downshifting so the only way that you could really over rev the motor is with an accidental downshift on a manual

Re: Redlining my H22A...

Stock ecu in the previous lude I drove cut the engine off at 8,200rpm, the rev limiter was removed when a jdm head was put on it out of an 01 type-s and the car was always rev to 8grand before shifting while racing, I was driving the car for about 8 months or so thanx to my previous car gettung wrapped around a tree, and be cause if that lude I'll never own another car other than a Honda. but like I said the car was ultimately always revved to 8grand I only found out about the 8,200 rpm engine cut off when I topped ended the car one morning on my way to miami, h22's can take a hell of a beating, so don't worry about what you're idiot brother did just don't let him drive your car again... ever! lol

Re: Redlining my H22A...

Yep, automatick has some tricky stuff. Luckily, I didn't rev it so high that the limiter kicked in, but it did get pretty high and loud. But yeah, I think if you try to upshift when the gear would send the needle into the redline, the gear number blinks a few times then shows the current gear again. Gots to love the Lewd!
