durring header install...

Durring the Instalation of my Header, found there was flex joint right after my stock exhaust manifold. i remember the exhaust guy i took it to when i bought the car told me that mine was shot to all hell and he replaced it under my permision.

i put on the Catback exhaust and never found the flex joint; i assumed it would have been on the back side of the cat for some reason. Is this necessary to have on my engine's exhaust? I have put everything back together soi can ride around in it still, but the dealer ship says it should be there, then again it seems like anything they cant get paid for, they dont want you to take it off.

So i guess what i am asking right now, should i stop the install of the header or take it to a guy and let him weld it on between the cat and the header?

I've never heard of anybody keeping the flex or welding one in on an aftermarket exhaust.

The flex joint is normally in the midpipe between the header/exhaust manifold and the cat. If it's not there, and you have both the upper and lower engine mounts installed then you'll be fine as the engine wont rock back and forth and tear up the exhaust.

I'm pretty sure you don't need it, because the Rksport and Dcsports header's do not come with a flex and they extend back where the cat would be

awesome, And Yes i have engine mounts, but they are wearing fast so i am hoping they make the Energy mounts for my car. it is something i hear alot about and love the reivews i hear about them.

anyone know of better mounts? or cheap good ones

So if i want to install a header in my car, do i HAVE to install the upper and lower mounts? I drive a 2005 pontiac sunfire, everything in the hood is stock right now, im going to install a CAI, header and exhaust, but i dont know if i need the mounts... does the link above: http://www.carcustoms.net/product_info.php?cPath=265_22_32_595&products_id=1 00 will fit my car? Thanks

no, u dont NEED to have the motor mounts if u install a new header, its just recommended. and yes, those mounts should work, i dont see why they wouldnt.
