2001 CRV Brake light issue

Hopefully my issue isn't unique. I live in New England and when it gets cold (under 30 degrees) my dash red brake light is on and stays on until the car gets warm in the interior. Not positively sure that it goes off because the interior gets warm. After I have driven about 5 miles and step on the brake pedal the light will generally go off. Any ideas or thoughts ??

Thanks

Check your brake fluid level. They have a low fluid level sensor and when it is cold and a little low it will go on.

What's likely happening there is your float in the brake fluid reservoir is getting stuck. Go to the nearest Honda dealer and buy a new brake fluid cap. It's a cheap repair anyone can do themselves. It may be wise to have the brake fluid replaced, if you haven't had that done in the last 3 years.

Interesting enough, mine was doing the same thing. Brake fluid level checked out fine but the service folks said it was the float in the cap. Replaced the cap and I still have occasional problems but not jsut when it is really cold. I am not that worried about it myself as I keep a check on my fluid levels anyway but it is inconvenient to have to explain to passengers that I have not left my emergency brake on.
