2002 Intrepid Transmission Problems

Hoping for a little advice as usual!

Two days ago the check engine light came on. It came on after I pumped gas, so I made the assumpion the gas cap was loose. It didn't clear up.

Yesterday while driving home I noticed a surge around 60 mph, the RPM's would climb a little and drop a little while maintaining acceleration. Very subtle, but I noticed it happening twice in a 30 mile stretch. I made a right turn and accelerated only to find out the transmission wouldn't shift and I "limped" my home.

Because the speedometer is working, I am guessing it's the Input Speed Sensor. But does it sound right the check engine light came on a day earlier, and does it sound right that I experienced those small surges?

Input Speed Sensor or something else?

It might be that input speed sensor, get the codes read first. The 1998 and transmissions do not go out, most auto salvage yards do not sell them and sit on the shelf. There are problems with the speed sensors.

Re: 2002 Intrepid Transmission Problems

I changed out the input and output speed sensors over the holidays and without thinking cleared the code . So now I'm unsure of what the code was reading.

I've drove approx. 60 miles since the replacement and not experienced any issues or codes.

I plan on checking all connections before driving the car back and forth to work again, 45 miles one way. Thanks for all the advice and if the code and/or problem shows back up I'll be back!
