240sx engine choices

I'm turning sixteen in about a year and I know I'm going to get a 240sx, but I can't decide between the SR20DET, RB25DET, and KA24DE-T engines.

Re: 240sx engine choices

so... i'm guessing you're question is which one is best?

flip a coin.. you're gonna get a plethora of different opinions each and every day. The stickies on this forum will give you some info that you seem to be needing. That way you can decide for yourself which one to get.

Re: 240sx engine choices

Re: 240sx engine choices

wait til you turn 16, get your license, learn how to drive. last thing we need is another 240 wrapped around a tree. start with a civic or something then move your way up after lots of research. once you get there, like they said in the above posts, it all depends what youre looking for out of the car.

EDIT: not to mention the ka24de-t isnt an engine you buy for a 240sx. it is the turbocharged version of the stock 240sx motor. and no, there is no such thing as a turbocharged KA straight from the factory.

Re: 240sx engine choices

Yeah, I know the KA24DE never came from the factory with a turbo, I'm not going to crash head on into a tree, and there is definately no way in hell I'm going to start with a Civic. I just need to know whick of the three is going to be the cheapest route to a 10:1 weight to horsepwer ratio. I probably could have been more specific about that, but oh well.

i think that was kinda unnecessary as far insinuating that hes gonna break his 240 if he buys one. no need to be condescending

since it is your first car however, i would suggest staying away from an RB25 swap, lots of money and involvement and will make your life a lot harder then it should be, especially if you want to be able to drive to school and have a reliable car thats not gonna be on jackstands or in a shop for weeks or more likely months. an SR20 swap is fairly straight forward, all the work besides the wiring and wrenching is done for you. KA-T is also nice if you can find a KA with decent miles, or you would have to do a rebuild. which is another reason why i would choose an SR for my first choice. its got plenty of balls and its got awesome potential for when you get some real cash to throw at it .

all im saying is this: a ka24de will supply more than enough power to a 16 year old kid just getting his license no matter what he wants to do with it. not to mention the car is rwd. an rb25det is WAYYYY overkill, like you said. along with any turbo motor for that sake, except maybe the CA18. a ka-t is not something a person without his license should attempt right away. im just saying before you jump into motor swaps and upgrades, get acquainted with the car first. start off with some basic n/a mods, then once the experience and knowledge starts setting in, move on to a ka-t or an sr.

Re: 240sx engine choices

before doing anything, i would just keep the motor shit stock for a while. maybe a year or two while you work on the suspension and get a feel for the car. your still too young and probably dont have that much driving experience so thats not something you should just try to jump in right off the bat.

Re: 240sx engine choices

Okay, my dad is not going to buy me a car unless it's a muscle car for under ten grand (uhg). Frankly, my dad could afford to import and legalize an R32 Skyline GT-R, but he never just hands shit to me. Even if he was willing to buy me a japanese car, I hate front drive Hondas, they make me sick.

Yeah maybe an RB25 is overkill, but the CA18 is not worth it. I've looked into it along time ago and it has too little displacement (meaning too much turbo lag), not enough potential, and waaaaaay too little aftermarket support. I just need the 270 or so hp that I need to get a 10:1 weight to hp ratio.

The stock KA24DE is definitely not enough horsepower. I can handle speed, I've been hauling ass on ATVs since I was 11.

Oh, and slideways... I really hope you were kidding about that BMW V12 suggestion, or you need some serious help.

nah dude! its all the fad... mines goin in next week, its better than any motor your talkin about, and it makes the car pimper than any fast and furious 240 from tokyo drift that you prolly saw and jerk off too every nite!!!!11!!

but seriously... i have been drivin my 240 for three years, and before that i had a yamaha banshee, and a bombardier ds650... i have driven corvettes, 350hp s14's. 400hp talons.. blah blah blah! but im not comfortable dailyin any of them, its not the same on the street, at least when ur quaddin the only person you can hurt is yourself, with a car theres families, kids, all kinds of other ppl you put at risk as well

edit:and the CA is an awesome motor, with tons of potential, it just doesnt have a bandwagon behind it so no one likes it... and less displacement doesnt mean more turbo lag, you probably dont even know what turbo lag is buddy
