Unhappy 92 accord transmission problems

I have a 92 Honda Accord EX 2 door, F22A6 2.2 liter single cam. I am having a rather unusual problem with the transmission. When the engine tempature is cold, the car runs fine. As soon as the engine reaches normal operating tempature, the transmission starts to slip and shift roughly and sluggish. No warning lights and tempature gauge shows no overheating. However, D4 light on the instument panel does dim when problem occurs, "DIM" not flash or hold. I have replaced the radiator and problem is still there. Then I replaced the thermostat and the problem now occurs sooner because the engine heats up faster. Then I replaced the transmission fluid and problem is still there. No metal shavings in fluid. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Re: 92 accord transmission problems

If it happens with temperture changes it could be a coolant temperature sensor. The one that sends information to the ECU. ECU thinks that the engine is still cold and sends wrong fuel/air ratio to the fuel injectors.

Check it out with the ohmmeter. It should give you different readings between cold and hot but I do not remember the exact numbers.

Thanks, I'll check the coolant tempature sensor and see if that's the problem. I'll post as soon as I get the problem fixed.

I am not sure why you focus on the engine temperature. It's your tranny slipping, not engine, right? The tranny operation is not controlled by temperature. So, I would think a seal in the tranny is leaking. And when the temperature is high, it leaks worse and causes the slipping.

Most tranny shops do free diagnosis. Get some professional opinion. If you need to replace a seal, the labor will be very high. The seal itself is only couple dollars.
