94 gmc suburban 5.7 engine slow idle and dies

I recently had my 5.7 L 350 engine rebuilt. It runs great with plenty of power and smooth when accelerating. When I start the engine it will not idle nor can I start it without accelerating slightly. If I can get it to idle it will idle so low it sometimes will die. In the infrequent idle it will have a slight hesitation or bounce (lack of a better term) very infrequent or intermittent. Sometimes it will die while driving without giving it gas or at turns. My mechanic that rebuilt the engine suggested that it should smooth out and run properly at about 500 to 1000 miles. The internal computer needs to adjust to the new engine because the computer was accustom to the engine running so poorly for so long. He did tell me that the fuel injectors needed to be cleaned and I should use some fuel injector cleaner in my fuel, which I have in the last 2 tanks. I noticed this problem started after the tank with the injector cleaner. I look forward to any help.
